June has been a very busy month as we hosted our art exhibition on 'Life?' We were blessed with many willing hands for the set up, the opening night, and the pack up and we are very thankful to everyone that helped.
The first section of the exhibition included 5 paintings by Helen on life. Each of these paintings had a question or statement to go with the painting on an aspect of life, and each had the answer from an atheist (Sam Mazur) and a Christian (Helen Devenish). The questions were: Where did the universe come from? When does human life begin? Life in the womb. What is the meaning of life? And is there life after death? We had a lot of Christians and atheists through the exhibition and this section was very well received.
The second section included 52 pencil sketches by Helen of people she knows including family members, friends, church family, and kids from the street ministry. In this section everyone had written something to do with their life. Some wrote one line and others 3-4 pages! The topics included teenage pregnancy, abortion, homelessness, mental health, bullying, friendship and more. We had tissues near by as many people were moved to tears through some of the very touching life stories. I also had the opportunity to share the Gospel with many people. And we had many thank us for doing what we do and being a light in the darkness.
Then there was the kids corner with artwork by some up and coming artists and the final section was artwork of scenes from every day life. We provided free food, tea and coffee throughout the entire exhibition and spent time talking, listening, praying and loving people. It was a great week! And we're looking forward to doing another exhibition next year on a very different theme.
