What a long time has passed since i did an update here. Life and ministry at Love Hobart has been super busy and I had technical issues accessing this website to edit. But, today, I've worked it out so here goes with a condensed update of the last 20 months or so.
We live in very different times now, since my last update. We've been through Lock-downs and learnt new words and terms like flatten the curve, Covid-19 plans, social distancing and more. But no matter what is going on in our world the work of the ministry continues at Love Hobart.
During Australia's nation-wide Lock-down last year I was given permission by the Police to continue the street work as an essential service to the community as a lot of the street work is about providing practical needs for people, including the homeless; from food and clothing, to food vouchers and flowers. During Lock-down, flowers were a great way to cheer people up, including the older population who were quite scared. Often I was able to pray and share the Gospel too, and many were encouraged by the Message of hope there is in Jesus.
Since that nationwide Lock-down, here in Tasmania we have only had one brief 3-day Lock-down since (we are blessed). Our Youth night continues every Friday apart from school holidays. This year was a lot quieter initially as there were less young people hanging around town, but as time has gone on, the youth have returned to our city. Although Youth night is an informal affair we often get some deep and meaningful conversations happening and our team gets to share one to one on different aspects of the Bible and our world view. we have been blessed to receive free doughnuts from Circle of Life in support of our Youth night. so we often end up at Dominoes 2-3 times in a night as we buy more pizzas if we run out.
Our church family has grown and we even enjoyed our first ever church camp in April 2021, with another one planned for 2022. It's very exciting that a former bouncer I used to share the Gospel with years ago outside a bar in Salamanca is now part of our church family with his family. He also goes out on the streets to share the Gospel, with passion, knowing that's how he came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
We are very thankful to the Lord for all His blessings on the ministry of Love Hobart, especially as we get close to our 10 year anniversary since starting this ministry, with our outreach cafe, The Rock.
