2019 has been one of our busiest years so far. The street ministry continues to blossom and flourish as we meet more and more people. One of the highlights was meeting a group of homeless guys that we were able to buy swags, sleeping bags and Macpac jackets for. They were so happy to be blessed with this help in the middle of our cold Tasmanian winter (see photo below) but they were also very happy just to have someone to talk with them. The youth night has expanded with more and more youth coming. They are very respectful of us but none the less there are challenges we face as there are a lot of kids doing life tough. There's lots of food and lots of hugs as well as a listening ear when needed.
The highlight of the year so far was our recent art exhibition called 'A Love Story'. Helen told her story through art and prose focusing on the street ministry along with other 'loves' in her life, using 4 Greek words for love- Agape, Eros, Phileo and Storge- to explain what different relationships look like. The opening night was well attended and we heard speeches from the Anglican Bishop of Tasmania, Richard Condie, Helen Devenish, and 4 of the young people met through the street ministry (see photos above). Around 2000 people came through during the 10 days we were open and ithe exhibition was very well received. The feature painting of 'The Alley' (aprox. 3m x 1.5m) was a highlight for many (see photo below with 2 humans in the foreground). Many were moved to tears as they walked through the exhibition and others just wanted to thank us and give us hugs for the ministry we do on the streets of Hobart. The response was quite overwhelming. It was also great to be available to talk with, pray for and encourage all kinds of people from all walks of life.
We continue to meet in a local park for our weekly evening prayer meeting. This time of year does have its challenges due to the cold, but as you can see from the below photo, we have learnt to rug up pretty well. It was 3C one night, but it is just so awesome to pray together for our city and for each other while under an open heaven! We have seen much answered prayer.
We are just over half way through the year and we look forward with anticipation to what the Lord will continue to do in and through this ministry and each person involved.
