What a lot has happened since our last update, not just with our ministry, but in our world. As we face the possibilities of economic collapse and more, it's good to reflect on the good things that we have. As a ministry we have much to give thanks for even in these times.
Since our last update, our Youth night has grown dramatically. We get a lot of kids through each week. even our first week back this year we had over 40 kids through, when normally it would be a handful. We continue to feed the young people for free (to them) and spend time getting to know them. We have a big mix of kids from around 15 years old to twenty-ish. Unfortunately from this week we will need to implement social distancing and a no-touch policy in line with the government recommendations due to the coronavirus. For as long as we are able, we will continue to be available for the youth of our city through the street ministry and Youth night.
The street ministry is just awesome. We know so many people now so the streets of Hobart are like a home away from home. There's always those in need as well as those that just want to catch up, or are hungry- so we have wedges and God-talk. There's always lots of questions and sometimes discussions, but its always good. We are blessed to know so many precious people; from the youth to the homeless, from shopkeepers to buskers and trust that as we are available to help, or chat, or feed the hungry etc. that we can be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Our biggest news for this year is that we published our own evangelism booklet. We had the launch at St Davids Anglican Cathedral in early March. The Bishop of Tasmania, Richard Condie spoke along with the pastor of Love Hobart, Helen Devenish. It was such a lovely night, well attended and there was a real buzz as people were genuinely excited about the new booklet. Its full of art work along with a written presentation of the Gospel. So as 2020 unfolds, as we see big changes across our world, may you be encouraged that God is still on His throne and He holds the whole world in His hands. There is no need to fear, but every reason to put our hope in Jesus.
